Here’s a little photo diary of my “Taste of Panama” during the #NietosTrip.
Into the Blue
So as the summer days in Miami keep getting hotter and hotter, and humid and hotter… we took a little weekend getaway to our favorite island destination. I’m sure you can all guess where by now – Bimini!
Boat. Bikinis. Blue, crystal-clear water. Breeze. Bahama Mamas. Joe’s Conch. Edith’s Pizza.
All the usual Summer suspects, but this time, I added two new Bimini essential’s to the list… my new Italian Independent Sunnies & my new adorb Playacar Kichu Wrap! We know it’s ALWAYS bikini season (or it’s so hot you wish you were in a bikini) here in Miami, so when the mastermind behind Kichu wraps, Kristine, sent me my own – I was in heaven. Not only can you wear it as a cover-up, but you can also wear it over something else for a night out! Can you say genius? And as for my blue-mirror sunnies, we all know we can’t get enough of this trend. Oversized, mirrored, blue and waterproof …also known as perfect.
Bimini Secrets
You know that vacation spot your family goes to every year? That one place that you look forward to for weeks? And no matter how many years pass, it will always have a significant place in your life? Well, my special spot is Bimini. What started as a small island that only fishermen knew about has now turned into one of the most popular vacation spots for all Miamians.
DISCLAIMER – I do miss the good old Bimini days when no one knew about the island, and there were only 10 of us there playing “catch the crabs” with the Bahamian locals. But hey – I cant’ be selfish forever.
I can go on and on bout how beautiful the island is forever, but since I know most of you reading this already know that, I’m going to let you in on all the little secrets that aren’t on all the resort itineraries or website.
Radio Beach
This beach is the real one. There’s about a mile of white, soft sand with no tourists, no chairs, no partying. This is what the original Bimini was all about.
Make a right onto the street right after the straw market in town, and go up the road until you see the beach right in front of you.
Edith’s Pizza
Homemade pizza made by the one and only, Edith, is not made like your average pizza. The dough is actually Bimini Bread (THE BEST!!!) and the toppings are out of this world.
My personal fav: Lobster Pizza
If you haven’t had Bimini Bread, you haven’t been to Bimini.
Joe’s Conch
Something amazing about the Bahamas? Being able to watch the locals catch the conch and make you salad or fritters right in front of you. Joe has had his little shack for about 20 years, and it’s still the best conch on the island.
Make sure to leave your mark on the wall! Ask them for the permanent marker!
Dreaming of L.A.
I spent the last five days driving down Beverly Hills, walking through Hollywood Boulevard, visiting my dream job and hanging out with my whole family (135 of us to be exact) for our family reunion. Basically falling in love with my weekend in LA.
I’ll tell you all about the priceless family weekend I had in a future post, but today I’m going to show you a little piece of my day with my dream job!
So, one of my older cousins is a producer at the 21st Century FOX Network in Hollywood. When I told him I was going to be in California for the weekend, he insisted I go visit him and get a tour of the whole network. And let me tell you, it was one of the most amazing days I’ve ever had!
For starters, the grounds are HUGE. Everything having to do with the network is there. I was able to see the background sets for tons of TV Series (like Modern Family and Bones), go into the theatre where all the pilots for movies and shows are shown to executives, go into the recording studios for audio soundtracks, go into the Avid editing suites and I was even able to see all the Oscars and Academy Awards that the network has received.
Hopefully one day this dream job will be my reality.

Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh my!
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
After receiving this tiger dress from Blush Boutique (Thanks again guys!), I got inspired, and decided to make a trip to Zoo Miami. The last time I was there, I had braces, glasses and was decked out in Limited Too – most definitely not my prime.
I only had a couple of hours to visit the Zoo, so I decided to pick 4 exhibits!
First Stop: The King of the Jungle- well, the Zoo. The Lions. Too bad they were sleeping.
Next: The Elephants! This was so cool. The zookeeper was feeding the 900 pound animal, and even got him to pose for pictures!
Third Stop: I would have never picked this exhibit, but the zookeeper at the elephants said it was a must have. So, a trolly and a 10-minute walk later, I went to the Rhino-feeding exhibit. The zookeeper was definitely right. This was probably the coolest part of the day.
Final Stop: I guess I didn’t have to go the desert!! I rode a camel!!
Great Clothes. Great Day.
