Today being the first day of the month, I am going to write about something that I hope will give everyone a little inspiration.
I know a lot of people will read this as they pause to take a filtered selfie to upload to all forms of social media with fingers crossed, hoping that it’ll break triple digits for likes.
I also know I’m one of those people.I also know that before any of these pictures are posted, we have picked the perfect filter on camera + and we’ve come up with the most clever hashtags. If the picture involves drinking, clubbing, is on a Tuesday night when you have work the next day at 8 AM, is past primetime hours or basically anything that shows you are 100% living your life to the fullest, the hashtag that is at the end of your caption is most definitely #YOLO.
YOLO A.K.A You only live once. The only time it comes up is in the midst of doing actions you know you will not be re-hashing to your parents. No one ever says YOLO while doing responsible tasks, such as going to the dentist or staying overtime at work. “Getting my teeth cleaned because YOLO.”
Nope. It doesn’t work like that.
But does YOLO really justify all the stuff we know we shouldn’t be doing? You only live once does not mean mess up the only life you have. It means that we do only have ONE life, so why not make it the most amazing life. Go after your dreams. Accomplish your goals. Travel the world. Do everything you can to fulfill your life. No regrets.
The difference as I understand it, between the concept of YOLO as we all know it, and the interpretation of YOLO as we should know it, is that instead of making excuses we should all be out there actually living our only life to it’s full potential.
And I promise from now on, if I have #YOLO in any of my posts, it will be because whatever I am doing or wherever I am in the picture is something that I’m proud of.
Okay, I’m done with the inspiration. Oprah can have her job back!
