While many people might drive down sunset drive, and pass the cute, corner restaurant Buns&Buns, and automatically think it’s a bakery…This hip spot in South Miami puts a fresh spin on fast-casual American food offering an eclectic roundup of burgers and sandwiches like brisket or pulled pork served on ciabatta, steamed or brioche buns, plus salads, fries and sides. The cozy space has a rustic-industrial feel, with pickled-wood floors, photo-filled brick walls and a sidewalk patio.
Chef Sugarman says he, “was trying to create a world in which “fast-casual” dining no longer means oversalted, limp noodle stir-fries or broccoli-cheddar chowders in bread bowls”. In Sugarman’s mind, fast-casual dining should be able to employ the same high-end ingredients and techniques used in fine-dining restaurants, just executed faster and with less fuss. To that end, Buns & Buns offers a hybrid version of traditional table service, with customers ordering at the register and servers bringing out dishes to their tables. As expected, most of the menu comes on a bun, whether it’s classic pulled pork on a ciabatta bun, rib-eye on a pretzel bun, steamed shrimp buns, or Nutella-stuffed dessert buns.
Just like a sign on their wall says, “This city is all about two things: DOUGH and BUNS!”, this Miami hot spot is something you must check out!
