Miami Music Week 2016

MIAMI MUSIC WEEK
Once a year, Miami gets even louder (yes, it’s possible) for an entire week. It’s known as Miami Music Week, and it has become one of the world’s greatest migrations for dance-music lovers. MMW officially starts tomorrow, so it’s time to start drawing up your game plan. Below is our official MMW 2016 party and concert guide for each day, straight from the Miami Music Week website.

On The City Slicker’s Instagram I’ll also be posting some under the radar events happening around Miami.

And trust me…there’s way more to MMW than just Ultra!

TIDAL X CHANGE: WIN LIL WAYNE CONCERT TICKETS

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset
Who wants to go to a Lil Wayne concert?! Well, I’ve got a great way for you to be able to do that, and also do some community service. How?
TIDAL, a global music and entertainment platform, has partnered with Lil Wayne to promote community service among college students with the  Social Wave For Change initiative.
And, here’s how you can enter for a chance to see Lil Wayne live right in your city.
unspecified
Here’s all you have to do:
Any undergraduate student currently enrolled in a 4 year university can participate from now through February 29th. You have to publicly post a photo or video of you doing a community service act on either on TIDAL‘s Facebook wall or on your own instagram page. You must use the hashtag #TIDALXCHANGE, mention your school name, and tag a friend.
Other participants so far have posted pictures of them doing things like volunteering at animal shelters, donating clothes, and working at food drives. Show your love for your community on the gram and win big. Seems like a win-win situation to me!
A panel of judges selected by TIDAL will review all submissions and choose the finalists – and once the finalists are announced, the general public will vote on the winner. The all participants are eligible for a 3 month subscription to TIDAL, finalists will receive a silent disco event for their school, and the winner will receive…A LIL WAYNE CONCERT NEAR THEIR SCHOOL! (yes, you heard me right!)

Oh, and if you win, you better invite me. Please?
If you have any more questions, comments or concerns regarding the challenge you can read more about it here.

This post is sponsored by TIDAL and Her Campus Media. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make The City Slicker possible!

Calle Ocho: Ventana to Cuba

Growing up Cuban in Miami was kind of like growing up Cuban in Cuba — if you were raised in the 1950s. Fidel may have taken their properties, their businesses, and their country, but he would never take away my family’s way of life!

Because growing up Cuban in Miami was probably way better than growing up Cuban in Castro’s Cuba, we Cubans have to hold our culture high.

It’s not Havana, Cuba. But it’s close. Maybe that’s why they call it “Little Havana”. Only 90 miles, a 48 minute flight separates the two Havanas. One is located on the island of Cuba, the other is here in Miami.

Right in the heart of Miami is an area that is from a Cuban storybook. Here in “Little Havana”, you can find hand-rolled cigars, fruiterias, meat markets, herbal stores and windows with cafecitos for only 25 cents. On 8th Street (or Calle Ocho) between 12th and 27th Avenues lies a time warp into another reality…
